Frequently asked questions

  1. Do I need a referral from my doctor for Physiotherapy treatment?
    No, you can make an appointment without a referral from your GP but some health insurance companies require this to authorise re-imbursement of fees.
  2. Will the cost of Physiotherapy be covered by my Health Insurance?
    Yes, our Physiotherapists are registered with the major health insurance companies. It may be advisable to check with your insurance company before starting treatment as they may need to authorise it. Be aware you will need to pay any excess you have with your insurance company directly to the clinic.
  3. Can therapists at The Old Pit Practice manipulate?
    All of our Chartered Physiotherapists have the appropriate qualifications to manipulate.
  4. How quickly can I be seen?
    We try to offer an appointment the same day or hopefully within 24 hrs.
  5. What should I bring with me?
    Please arrive in plenty of time for your initial appointment as the receptionist will need to take your details, if you have private health insurance, please bring your policy details. It will be helpful if you wear or bring appropriate clothing for the area you are having assessed and or treated. For example, shorts for leg assessments. If you have any appropriate test results e.g. X-ray, MRI, blood tests, then please bring these.
  6. How much does it cost?

  7. Do you treat backs and necks?
    Yes we do. In fact our therapists treat every musculoskeletal injury (which involves muscle, ligament and bone) in the body. Whether it is your neck, or shoulder, elbow or wrist, hip, knee or foot, we have the knowledge and skills to treat your problem.

  9. How do I know if a therapist is fully qualified?
    All of our therapists at The Old Pit Practice have undergone the required qualifications in their respected fields to enable them to practice.
  10. My doctor tells me I need a joint injection, do you do these?
    Yes, we have a Consultant Physiotherapist who has undergone the required qualification in order to be able to administer injections. Please contact the practice for further details.
  11. How long is each treatment session?
    Physiotherapy sessions can take up to 30 minutes, Massage Therapy can be for 30mins or an hour and our Chiropody sessions are scheduled on a 20 minute appointment basis. As we run a busy schedule is important that patients arrive in plenty of time for their appointment.
  12. I’ve just had Orthopaedic surgery, can I come to you for Physiotherapy?
    Yes, we treat a wide variety of post-operative conditions, from arthroscopic surgeries to spinal fusions. We have specialised knowledge in post-operative care and can communicate closely with your surgeon if special instructions are needed.
  13. How many treatments will I need?
    This varies depending on your condition and severity, you may only need one or two visits in some cases. Sometimes, however, you condition may be a little more complicated and you may need several weeks of rehab before getting better. Your therapist will always try to give a rough indication of how many visits you may require. Generally, the less the time you have had your symptoms the quicker the recovery time.

  15. Can I bring a chaperone?
    Yes, we welcome patients to bring a chaperone. We request that any patient under 16 years that they are accompanied by a parent or Guardian.
